BIS – your partner for studying, teaching, research and education
The BIS offers a broad spectrum of academic information and services at both locations.
When the Carl von Ossietzky University was founded in 1973, the BIS took over the holdings of the former Pädagogische Hochschule. Today the University Library has around 1.4 million books in its open-stack shelves.
The collections focus on the academic disciplines represented at the University. The BIS also has special collections and archives.
The Central Library on Haarentor Campus houses specialised literature on the humanities, cultural studies, economics, social sciences and law while the Departmental Library on Wechloy Campus has literature for the natural sciences, engineering, mathematics and medicine.
The BIS provides access to a constantly growing selection of electronic resources such as e-books and academic databases and also has approx. 25,000 electronic journals.
